KYLE CHERITON

homes

I’ve been fortunate to live in very different parts of the world over the course of my life. Each place introduced me to different people, cultures and ways of looking at the world. Living abroad taught me to adapt, to listen before assuming I understood, and to appreciate that there is rarely just one way of doing things.

Some places challenged me, others opened doors I never expected, and each left something behind. I learned that feeling at home isn’t necessarily about where you were born or how long you’ve lived somewhere. It comes from the relationships you build, the experiences you share and the connection you develop with a place and its people.

After many years of moving, exploring and building a life in different parts of the world, I eventually settled in Vancouver. It feels like the right place for this chapter of my life—a place where I can enjoy the outdoors, stay active, contribute to my community and still feel connected to the wider world that has shaped so much of who I am.

Vancouver

Vancouver is a cosmopolitan Pacific city defined as much by its spectacular natural setting as by its urban character, with mountains rising behind a skyline surrounded by ocean, beaches, forests, and parks. Its compact downtown and diverse neighborhoods combine glass towers, lively restaurants, multicultural communities, and a distinctly West Coast emphasis on outdoor living.

Stanley Park and the seawall bring nature directly into the city, while skiing, hiking, cycling, kayaking, and sailing are all within remarkably easy reach. Vancouver can feel simultaneously metropolitan and relaxed—a beautiful, internationally connected city where everyday life is unusually intertwined with the natural environment.

I joined the Tourette's Society today. It only took a minute to be sworn in.

Tokyo

Tokyo is a vast, energetic city where extraordinary scale and efficiency coexist with an unexpected sense of order and intimacy. Futuristic towers, glowing entertainment districts, crowded train stations, and cutting-edge technology sit alongside quiet residential streets, tiny restaurants, neighborhood shrines, traditional gardens, and centuries-old customs.

Each district has a distinct personality—from the intensity of Shibuya and Shinjuku to the refinement of Ginza and the more relaxed character of smaller neighborhoods. What makes Tokyo especially compelling is its contrasts: fast yet orderly, densely populated yet often peaceful, deeply traditional yet constantly reinventing itself.

Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach is a relaxed yet polished coastal community in Southern California, known for its wide sandy beach, iconic pier, oceanfront Strand, and active outdoor lifestyle. Just southwest of Los Angeles, it combines the easygoing atmosphere of a beach town with upscale homes, stylish restaurants and shops, and a strong neighborhood feel.

Surfers, volleyball players, cyclists, runners, and families fill the beachfront throughout the year, while the compact downtown offers a lively but unhurried gathering place just steps from the ocean. Despite being part of metropolitan Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach can feel like a small seaside town—sunny, walkable, sociable, and closely connected to the Pacific.

If you think life is unfair, you won't be too thrilled about death

Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is an elegant coastal city where the mountains meet the Pacific, combining Southern California’s relaxed lifestyle with a distinctive Mediterranean character. Known for its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, red-tiled roofs, palm-lined streets, beaches, and historic mission, the city feels both sophisticated and remarkably laid-back.

State Street forms the heart of downtown, with restaurants, cafés, shops, and galleries leading toward the waterfront, while nearby neighborhoods quickly give way to foothills, vineyards, and dramatic coastal scenery. Santa Barbara’s relatively small scale, mild climate, natural beauty, and emphasis on outdoor living give it the feeling of a refined seaside retreat rather than a conventional California city.

Edmonton

Edmonton is where my story began—the city where I was born, raised, and educated, and where many of my earliest values and perspectives were formed.

Growing up on the Canadian Prairies meant experiencing long winters, expansive skies, distinct seasons, and a community shaped by resilience, practicality, and an unpretentious approach to life. Edmonton gave me my foundation before my career eventually took me to very different places around the world.

Although I have lived in cities across North America and Asia and ultimately settled in Vancouver, Edmonton remains an important part of who I am: the place that taught me where I came from before I began discovering where I could go.
