Teaching

"To
teach
 is to learn twice."

I have always had a keen urge to teach, although that urge increased as I acquired more and more experience in the world. I taught strategic sales techniques at Four Seasons as an accredited trainer.

In 2004, a visiting professor from Philadelphia asked to speak to his Tourism class at Temple University Japan. I really enjoyed the opportunity to share my career experiences with the students and was invited back to speak again over the ensuing years.

Early in 2009, I was asked by Temple University in Japan to teach the entire course during the upcoming summer semester and given the freedom to write my own syllabus for the course. Despite some apprehension and a busy work schedule, I quickly accepted the invitation. The workload of preparation was intense for two 2 1/2 hour classes each week. But I worked at it, invited guest speakers to talk to the students and even took the students for field trips.

All in all, I had a blast teaching and hope to continue it. Best of all, I got some terrific feedback from the students on their experiences in my classes. I really believe we both got a lot from the experience. The best reward will be to know I made a difference in someone's choice of career and success in life.
